Just wondering, is there a "lessons learned" thread where we can pass on suggestions to the next Games organizers?

Benoit Hebert The next games need to be more prepared on the IT and communication aspect. When you put up a website with a place where people can clic "Live results" it has to be live not two days old info and pictures of events not posted 6 days after the... Show more 8 years ago

Michele Egan Totally agree, Benoit. They have not updated the photo site in a week and are completely unresponsive. 8 years ago

Jody Carlson My suggestion would be for better (and timely) communications from the volunteer organizers to the volunteers. Don't post things like "we'll send notices on X topic by X date" and then send notices 2-3 weeks later if at all. I think we all... Show more 8 years ago

You guys were amazing!!!! Thank you!

You guys were amazing!!!! Thank you!

I showed up for tennis at GMU today and my scheduled time, only to discover that they wrapped tennis last night. I never got the word. Did this happen to anyone else? Just curious.

Stephen, I'm your MVM for Herndon. I'll make sure we have everything we need, plus I'm bringing my trauma bag too.. I stopped at the site Monday to make sure we have supplies. I'll be there early Friday and Saturday. It all depends on your Manager, seems. I worked CrossFit/Volleyball Monday and it was fun, but you can tell who's experienced in being a Medic at events and who's not

I worked Toughest Competitor over the weekend. Be resourceful, the equipment should be there but we had to look for it. Ice packs would have been handy but we improvised using gloves and baggies filled with ice. It was a great experience for me, I'm glad I volunteered.

PS, all - look at the training section. The scopes of practice and procedures are posted where you found your orientation training. (Since I didn't get email telling me about it, I'm assuming not everyone knows).

I did my first shift yesterday at Tae Kwon Do (NVCC). It was an afternoon, and ended early (not that many competitors in forms, I guess). My predecessor and the MVM had things pretty well organized...there were two bags of med supplies (although I personally would have liked more cold packs and fewer glucose testing supplies, beggars ain't choosers ;-). There was a very nice binder with all the forms, the scopes of practice, and overviews well laid out, with tabs. The radio worked well (It'll...

Thanks, Susan; seems that I'm on weight lifting at Herndon Comm. Center, half marathon and the triathlon.

Totally depends on were you go. Some of the sites are pretty makeshift, some of them are right on. What sports are you?

Medical Volunteers - How's it going?

I haven't worked any shifts but am wondering how it's going when you do show up to work. Are there adequate supplies and paperwork available? Thanks for any insights, Steve

Volunteer Game Makers

I have registered to volunteer at the Motox and Scrambles Venue. I have not received any credentials but I shall show up there and do what I can to help out.

Jody Carlson I updated my volunteer profile to remove my cell phone number and haven't received a text since then; I'm happy about that because I pay per text (I rarely text). I don't need "day of" notifications since I'm at the Athlete's Village and my venue... Show more 8 years ago

Charlene -I'm Medical too. I've flown over from England today. I have 2 shifts now Thursday and Sunday. I guess I'll go sightseeing if nil else. Want to come?

Did anyone respond to that email looking for more people to fill those shifts? Did you get a response back yet? I do not see those added to my options on the volunteer site.

I signed up for tomorrow from 9-12 at South Lakes HS and have not received any information as to who to check in with and where so I am not sure what to do or if I should even show up.

Barbara I didn't receive any info either but showed up for my shift today 30 min early. There was a volunteer check in table and I found the volunteer coordinator who told me where help was needed. 8 years ago

I sure hope the next group hosting this event takes the time to ask the current volunteer pool for their lessons learned. I feel like we have a lot we could share.

Are the volunteers who were at canceled events needed elsewhere?

So for those volunteering tomorrow at the GMU Field House... Anybody gotten any instructions?? I got an email about a Wednesday shift I never signed up for...but nothing about my shifts for tomorrow!!

Jody Carlson I got an email this morning confirming morning arrival time at Champions Square, but I signed up for the afternoon shift. I was reassigned late last night due to my hockey assignment being cancelled so I'm hoping that venue coordinator just sent a... Show more 8 years ago

Well this is disappointing. I just got an email that my hockey shifts have been cancelled since they have too many volunteers and I'm being given the chance to volunteer elsewhere. I'm not impressed with the volunteer organization here. OK there are several thousand people to sort, but the last minute notices (if we even get notices) are a bit much. My first shift was to have been at 8am tomorrow and I just now get a "never mind" email?

Sean Collins Same here - this is a total sham - you don't treat people who are volunteering their time this way. It's very disappointing 8 years ago
